Economic activity status of Debre Zeit Community Members:

According to the 2007 census, economic activity status refers to persons aged ten years and over who were engaged or available to be engaged in the production of economic goods and services during a given reference period. Hence, those engaged and or available to be engaged were classified as economically active, while those who were neither engaged nor available to be engaged in the production of economic goods and services during a given reference period were considered as economically non-active.

Accordingly, in Debre Zeit, 21.3 % of the population is economically active out of which 81.6% are employed while 18.4% were unemployed. interestingly the share of the total population that were economically active gets smaller as one moves to East Shewa Zone and Oromia Region.

On the other hand despite the relatively smaller proportion of the population that is economically active, the proportion employed rises as one moves up to East Shew Zone and Oromia Region.
